Concrete around the propertyPlan for use and access

Start with what the concrete needs to do.

Tell us what the concrete will carry or connect, how the work area can be accessed and what is currently on the ground.

House & shed slabs

A slab starts with what it needs to support. Send any building plans, the proposed size and service locations. JJ Brown’s project photographs include house-slab preparation and concrete pours; specifications need to suit your particular build.

Concrete driveways

Think about the vehicles using the driveway, turning room and the connection to the garage or existing concrete. Photos of the entry, slope and current surface help Jesse understand the work. Let him know whether you are considering exposed aggregate or another finish.

Concrete paths & access

Paths need to connect the places you actually use: doors, gates, sheds and outdoor areas. Show where the path begins and ends, adjoining walls and any drains. Include width and level changes in your enquiry.

Exposed aggregate

Exposed aggregate reveals the stones in the concrete surface. The photographed JJ Brown job below shows this finish around buildings and across broad outdoor areas. Bring a reference photo to discuss the appearance you want; colours and the mix need confirming for your job.

Steps & paths

Concrete that follows the space.

This JJ Brown photograph shows curved concrete steps meeting a path beside the house. It is a useful example to discuss when your outdoor access involves a change in level.

Send photographs of the doorway, existing ground and where the path needs to lead. Measurements and any plans help Jesse understand the shape and levels of your site.

What affects a
concreting quote?

A square-metre figure alone cannot describe the whole job. These are useful details to discuss with Jesse—not a price list or a specification for your site.

Size and intended use

Measure the approximate length and width, and explain what the surface will carry. Include plans where the concrete is part of a building project.

Existing ground

Show the current surface, changes in level and anything that may need removing. Include ground preparation in the enquiry rather than assuming it is already covered.

Access to the work

Photograph gates, narrow passages and the route from the road. Mention nearby buildings, overhead obstacles and areas that must remain accessible.

Finish and adjoining work

Explain your preferred finish, edges and connections to existing concrete. Ask which preparation, removal and finishing items are included in the quote.
